Dallas County's public health system, Parkland Hospital completed a billion-dollar replacement building program. A key element in the design of the new facility was a series of sky-bridges connecting the existing hospital to the brand-new facility. The main skybridge was critical to the opening of the new facility as it was used to move patients fro their previous treatment spaces into the new hospital. Dallas County, who oversees the healthcare system, had already selected a construction manager at risk team to deliver the larger new hospital, but elected to separate project packages and procure the skybridge as a stand-alone project.
From a business development perspective, our client was well-positioned to be a front-runner in the competition for this significant enabling project for the new Parkland Replacement Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Despite that perception, actually winning the project still required a well-crafted RFP response and compelling short-list interview.
PRAXIS was engaged to successfully leverage past experience with the team and develop a winning strategy, convincing RFP response, and a compelling interview for the pursuit. Our effective coordination of multiple team members, maximization of subcontractor M/WBE opportunities, and clear articulation of our carefully designed logistics approach were critical to the success of the pursuit.
As a result of our involvement and leadership, our joint venture client was awarded the project. The completion of this construction project was critical to the smooth transition from the previous facility into the new hospital. After completion, we were re-engaged by the team to develop several award submittals. This subsequent effort resulted in the project earning the designation of "Project of the Year" by the Regional Hispanic Contractors Association.
PRAXIS LAND & LABOR ACKNOWLEDGMENT
As a Dallas, TX-based firm, our work takes place on the lands of the Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Towakani, Caddo, Wichita, as well as the tribes that may have lived here and roamed the area – including Comanche, Kiowa and Apache—historic Indigenous communities in Texas. In offering this land acknowledgment, we honor, respect, and affirm Indigenous sovereignty, history, and experiences.
In addition, we acknowledge that much of what we know of this country today, including its culture, economic growth, and development throughout history and across time, has been made possible by the labor of enslaved Africans and their ascendants who suffered the horror of the transatlantic trafficking of their people, chattel slavery, and Jim Crow. We are indebted to their labor and their sacrifice, and we must acknowledge the tremors of that violence throughout the generations and the resulting racial, political, social, and justice inequities that permeate the Built Environment.
