Organized by 6 of the nation's leading construction management firms (Gilbane Building Company, DPR Construction, Mortenson, McCarthy Building Company, Turner Construction, and Clark Construction) and launched in 2021, Construction Inclusion Week is a week long awareness campaign developed to promote, educate, and bring awareness to issues related to inclusion within the construction industry. The week-long effort includes robust trainings, curriculums, video content, and a bevy of other resources to encourage construction firms to focus on enhancing inclusion practices within their companies and on their projects.
PRAXIS was approached in early 2021 by the organizing firms who sought an experienced marketing/communications agency to brand, message, launch, and manage the inaugural initiative. After a proposal and interview process, PRAXIS was awarded the project based on experience in the construction industry as well as expertise in developing and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies for the industry.
The accelerated project commenced with a branding and website development phase. As the concept for the awareness initiative was brand new, an entire brand identity, website, and social media presence had to be established. In addition to the identity and digital component, PRAXIS partnered with the organizers to develop and deliver curriculum components, aggregated media, developed at-home resources. Scope also included development of several guides and tools, social media management, and public relations.
The successful program continued in 2022 with PRAXIS providing additional services including developing an industry-specific DEI Assessment, video production, in-person event planning, as well as the addition of an online e-commerce platform for branded merchandise and apparel.
Planning is underway for 2024: Save the date for Construction Inclusion Week 2024: October 14-18.
PRAXIS LAND & LABOR ACKNOWLEDGMENT
As a Dallas, TX-based firm, our work takes place on the lands of the Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Towakani, Caddo, Wichita, as well as the tribes that may have lived here and roamed the area – including Comanche, Kiowa and Apache—historic Indigenous communities in Texas. In offering this land acknowledgment, we honor, respect, and affirm Indigenous sovereignty, history, and experiences.
In addition, we acknowledge that much of what we know of this country today, including its culture, economic growth, and development throughout history and across time, has been made possible by the labor of enslaved Africans and their ascendants who suffered the horror of the transatlantic trafficking of their people, chattel slavery, and Jim Crow. We are indebted to their labor and their sacrifice, and we must acknowledge the tremors of that violence throughout the generations and the resulting racial, political, social, and justice inequities that permeate the Built Environment.
